Francis “Fran” M. Matys, 76, of Upper Chichester, Pennsylvania, died March 9, 2022 at Chester Crozer Medical Center. Born in Chester, Pennsylvania, Fran has resided all her life in Upper Chichester. He graduated from the Chichester High School Class of 1963. Subsequently, Fran graduated as an Associate of the RETS Electronic School Class of 1965. Fran owned and operated Audio Visual Communications, Inc. for over 40 years and retired in 2020. He was passionate about audiovisual work and took great pride in his business. He was a life member of Delaware County Field and Stream where he enjoyed archery. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father, brothers, sons and grandchildren. An animal lover, he bred award-winning Brittany spaniels and beagles. Fran also loved gardening for which everyone who knew him was familiar with his infamous tomato and pepper plants.
He was beyond proud, supportive and showed unconditional love for his many grandchildren. Fran also enjoyed the music of the historic Polish group Matys Brothers. As a young man, he enjoyed traveling for his sons’ sporting events, including BMX bike races and swimming competitions. Fran was obsessed with the television series Heartland. Fran was extremely friendly, outgoing and enjoyed striking up a conversation with just about anyone.
However, nothing outweighed his passion for joking and teasing his friends and family. He is predeceased by his parents, Walter Eugene and Mary Sigda Matys. Fran is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Joan L. Brown Matys, 5 sons: Brian (Katie) Matys, Chad Matys, Justin (Jill) Matys, Matt (Jackie) Matys and John (Farahlee) McCracken, 2 brothers: Bob (Vicki) Matys and Moe (Marie) Matys, 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held Monday, March 14 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd. Garnet Valley, PA, followed by a funeral liturgy at 12 p.m. The burial will remain private.
