Kohima, May 28 (MExN): The Nagaland Archery Association (NAA) organized a congratulatory program for the archers who won medals at the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav North East Sports Festival 2022 and the 1st Khelo India Archery Tournament NE held in Imphal from April 27 to May 3.
NAA President Neiphrezo Keditsu congratulated the archers and coaches for bringing laurels to the state. He asked for additional support from the Department of Youth Resources and Sports in the future. The results they have shown in winning medals speaks to their potential to become a leader in their own field, he said and urged archers to compete at national and international levels.
NOA co-secretary Kuputo Shohe said the Nagas were talented in the sport, but the lack of infrastructure kept the players behind. But with burning sportsmanship, we are second to none.
NWA adviser Neivikuolie Nicholas Khatsu said archery is inherently a clean sport. He was of the opinion that archery needs mental strength in addition to physical balance. He encouraged them to discipline and devote themselves: “If you are good at your own discipline, opportunities will come. He also informed that the department is working hard to put in place a sports policy, a system where it is legislated by the assembly.
The total medal tally from the two competitions was 27, including four gold, two silver and 21 bronze medals. A total of seven medals in the 1st Khelo India NE Archery Tournament and 20 medals were won in the AKAM NE Sports Fest 2022.
A total of 16 archers and three officials/coaches representing the state of Nagaland participated in the events.
