Miracle League opens baseball season this weekend

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On a beautiful Saturday at the Miracle League field, everyone was winning.

More than 200 All-Starts took to the field with their teams for the first time this spring season.

Wilmington, NC, March 14, 2022 – Baseball is back as the Miracle League of Wilmington
returns to play Saturday, March 19 at Miracle Field located in Olsen Park.

“We are thrilled to have all of our All-Starts hitting the field on Saturday,” John Smist said.

The Spring 2022 season lasts ten weeks while taking a break for our Miracles in Motion
race and the Easter holidays.

The Miracle League of Wilmington is a baseball league accessible to children and adults
living with a disability; 3 years and over. Currently, the Miracle League of Wilmington serves more
over 210 All Starts across three team types: Classic, Tee Ball and Competitive.

We are more than Miracles on a Field and our All-ACCESS playground at Olsen Park.
ACCESS of Wilmington offers adapted fitness classes twice a week; adapted sports for
veterans including kayaking, surf camp, equine therapy, yoga, scuba diving, archery,
cycling and golf; adapted kayak, bike and surf camp for all ages; movie and game
nights; and individual recreational therapy, in addition to our Miracle League games. This
fall, we are adding ACCESSible Adventures, all-terrain wheelchair expeditions in our area
beaches, marshes and parks, real natural treasures of our coastal region
accessible to everyone. Although COVID has put a pause on some of our programming, we
transitioned to virtual fitness classes and pledged to find safe ways to access the
outdoors for our ACCESS community.

Miracle League of Wilmington: An accessible baseball league filled with fun, dancing and
home shopping for children and adults with disabilities; 2 years and over. The Miracle League of
Wilmington serves more than 200 All Stars across three types of teams: Classic, Tee Ball,
Competitive. A spring and fall season runs for 8 weeks with games scheduled on
Saturdays, with monthly summer games.

ACCESS Fit: A year-round fitness and wellness program designed for young adults, adults,
and older people with disabilities; 10 years and over. ACCESS Fit currently serves more than 100
participants in person and virtually to community members, group homes and day
programs in southeastern North Carolina.

SOAR Project: An adapted sports program offering archery, cycling, golf, kayaking,
Scuba diving and surfing for veterans living with a service-related illness or injury. Regularly
serves 75 veterans and caters to more than 300, including the Warrior Transition Battalion at
Fort Bragg and the North Carolina USO.

GAME ACCESS: Adapted cycling, archery, kayaking, surf camp, game nights and more for our
ACCESS Community.

Recreational therapy: Individual with certified therapeutic recreational therapy

ACCESSIBLE Adventures: Increasing Accessibility to the Beauty of Our Coastal Region
through two off-road Wheelchair Terrain Hoppers expeditions.
