Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari finish on the National Archery Championship podium | More sports news

KOLKATA: Olympian couple Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari finished on the podium of the 41st Senior National Archery Championship which has just ended at the MA Stadium in Jammu. While the former won a silver medal, his wife picked up a bronze medal respectively in the men’s and women’s recurve categories.
The duo have once again made their presence felt ahead of the final selections for the Asian Games after being recently removed from the Target Olympic Podium Program (TOPS).
It was a golden finish for the archers of Haryana as Sachin Gupta and Ridhi were crowned the men’s and women’s champions respectively. Sachin won two more medals, winning bronze in the men’s team event and gold in the mixed team category while teaming with Bhajan Kaur.
Ridhi picked up her second gold medal in the women’s team competition.
In the individual event, PSPB archer Das, who qualified seventh, beat Atul Verma (6-0), Ashutosh Mishra (6-0), veteran Tarundeep Rai (6-1) and Paras Hooda (6-4) before falling to fifth place. -ranked Sachin 2-6 in the summit clash. Hooda of Haryana won bronze beating Gaurav Lambe of Maharashtra 7-1.
Deepika got off to a good start qualifying second in the ranking round with a score of 647. The PSPB archer beat Diksha Nayak (6-0), Gurmehar Grewal (6-4) and Adity Jaiswal (6-4) . She lost to eventual winner Riddhi 4-6 in the semi-finals. However, the 27-year-old archer overcame a tough challenge from Promila Daimary of Assam 10-8 in the tie-break after the pair were tied 5-5 in the medal play-off. bronze.
Riddhi beat Dipti Kumari 7-3 to clinch gold.
The men’s team gold was won by SSCB while the Indian police team won silver. The Jharkhand girls won the team silver medal ahead of the Indian Police archers.
The mixed team silver was won by Jharkhand while Bengal took bronze.
